The Bill Abom Legacy Scholarship, established through the Wilson Education and Mental Wellness Foundation, is dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of Bill Abom — a devoted husband, father, brother, friend, and lifelong advocate for immigrant workers and overlooked communities. For decades, Bill stood shoulder-to-shoulder with individuals whose voices were too often ignored. His work in labor advocacy, migrant worker support, and community organizing transformed lives across New York and Ireland. Bill believed deeply in justice, dignity, and the power of collective action. He inspired others not only with his leadership, but with his compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right. This scholarship supports students and emerging leaders who share Bill’s passion for service and justice.

Eligible applicants may be pursuing studies or careers in: • Social justice and community advocacy • Labor organizing or worker rights • Immigration support services • Public service fields • Mental health, social work, or community leadership • Programs that uplift underserved or marginalized groups The scholarship is designed to remove financial barriers and empower individuals who are committed to carrying forward the values Bill devoted his life to. Through education, mentorship, and community involvement, recipients will help continue Bill’s mission of standing with those who need it most. By investing in these future leaders, the Wilson Education and Mental Wellness Foundation ensures that Bill’s legacy of courage, compassion, and justice will live on in every community touched by his work.

The recipient of the Bill Abom Memorial Scholarship will be chosen by Bill’s children — Liam, Thomas, and Anna Abom — who will serve as the Selection Committee for this award.
