Raul Huerta, a 2025 graduate of Selma High School, discovered his passion for the fire service during his junior-year urban/rural firefighting class taught by retired Dinuba Fire Chief Larry Roberts. Mentorship from Chief Roberts and Selma Fire Department’s Donovan Fulner taught him discipline, teamwork, and the value of serving others. A defining moment came when Instructor Fulner told Raul’s family that he had the qualities the fire department looks for in a future firefighter—motivation that solidified his commitment to the profession. Raul now strives to serve his community with professionalism, compassion, and integrity, inspired by the mentors who believed in him.
Cadet Huerta plans to complete the Fire Academy successfully and continue his education by earning my associate’s degree, building a strong academic and professional foundation for his career in the fire service.

Congratulations to Isaiah Miller, recipient of the Wilson Education and Mental Wellness Foundation Fire Academy Scholarship for Fresno City College Fire Academy Fall; Class 66.
Isaiah exemplifies the values of service, perseverance, leadership, academic excellence, and community commitment that this scholarship was created to support.
A graduate of Clovis High School and current Fresno City College student, Isaiah has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication to his education and future career in the fire service. He has earned placement on the Fresno City College Dean’s List multiple times, achieved a 4.0 GPA during the Spring 2026 semester, and was recognized as the Valedictorian of the Fresno City College EMT Program, where he earned the highest academic score in his class. In addition, he served as Squad Captain, providing leadership and support to his fellow EMT students. His accomplishments also include serving as Secretary of the African American Student Union and receiving the Scholar Athlete Award while attending Clovis High School.
Isaiah’s passion for the fire service was shaped through personal experiences and firsthand observations of the important role first responders play in supporting individuals and families during times of crisis. These experiences inspired him to pursue a career dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact in his community.
Beyond academics, Isaiah demonstrates outstanding character and commitment to his community. He balances employment while attending school, participates in community service projects including Beautify Fresno and the Old Town Clovis Farmers Market, and regularly donates blood to help those in need.
Isaiah’s financial circumstances further reflect his resilience and selflessness. As the oldest of four siblings, he helps provide financial support for his family while assisting his single mother with household responsibilities. Despite the challenges of balancing work, family obligations, and his education, Isaiah has remained focused on his academic success, career goals, and commitment to serving others.

Congratulations, Kevin Molina Casillas!
The Wilson Education and Mental Wellness Foundation is proud to announce Kevin Molina Casillas as the first recipient of the Bill Abom Legacy Scholarship.
Kevin exemplifies the values that defined Bill Abom’s life—service, advocacy, compassion, and a commitment to helping others. As a first-generation college student from a low-income immigrant family, Kevin has overcome significant challenges while pursuing his dream of becoming a firefighter.
For more than three years, Kevin served as a Dinuba Fire Explorer, where he earned the respect of mentors and firefighters through his professionalism, leadership, and strong work ethic. As a bilingual English-Spanish speaker, he has helped bridge communication barriers during emergency responses, ensuring members of the Hispanic community receive the care and support they deserve.
A graduate of Orosi High School, Kevin has also dedicated countless hours to community service, academic achievement, and youth involvement. On July 20, he will continue pursuing his passion for public service as a member of Fresno City College Fire Academy Class 66.
We are honored to support Kevin on his journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will make in the fire service and throughout his community.
Congratulations, Kevin! Your dedication, resilience, and heart for service make you a deserving recipient of the inaugural Bill Abom Legacy Scholarship. Thank you, Nell Abom, Carole Abom, and Mary Jo Muller for your generous donation to support these young adults .
